For me, every day feels like the first day at work.
Origins and Education
Hello, my name is Cinzia Chiulli. I was born on June 11, 1962, in Viterbo, the city where I live and work.
I graduated in 1981 from the Tuscia Art High School in Viterbo and, from 1982 to 1986, studied Architecture at La Sapienza University in Rome.
Early Professional Years
From 1986 to 1993 I worked as an interior designer at the studio of architect M. Campelli in Rome, designing interiors for new buildings in Rome and throughout Italy.
In 1994, I attended the School of Wood Painting at V.O. Art Style and Painting School in Cape Town, South Africa.
Specializations and Artistic Training
From 1995, for two years, I attended the School of Decoration and Mural Painting “Accademia del Superfluo” in Rome, and in 1998 I obtained a diploma as “Restorer of Antique Furniture” (Lazio Region, Rome).
Foundation of the “Artistica” Studio
In 1999, I co-founded “Artistica”, a Ceramic Workshop, Art Studio and Restoration Laboratory, in Viterbo, Via di San Pellegrino.
During these years I specialized in ceramic decoration, ceramic restoration, wooden objects, and mural decoration, while producing numerous personal works.
Exhibitions, Collaborations and Commissions
I have collaborated with several ceramic exhibitions in various cities, including Viterbo and Deruta (Umbria).
I created the interior decorations of the Monastery of Sant’Agnese (15th century) in Vitorchiano (Viterbo) for the Jubilee of 2000.
I taught at the regional school for “Artistic Ceramic Decorators” in Lazio.
Teaching Activity
Since 2001 I have taught ceramic painting, restoration, and fresco painting for the American school SYA – School Year Abroad, whose only Italian campus is in Viterbo.
I have carried out restoration work for private clients and taught at multiple levels: kindergarten, middle school, high school, and university.
I have designed logos and decorative projects for companies, hotels, and public spaces.
Associations and International Experience
I am co-founder of the Cultural Association “Le Botteghe dell’Arte”, dedicated to the promotion of artistic craftsmanship.
I carried out restoration work for the churches of Sant’Antonio in Vitorchiano and Sant’Antonio in Soriano nel Cimino.
In 2001, I earned a diploma in Raku ceramics at the Romano Ranieri Ceramic Art School in Deruta.
In Russia and the United Arab Emirates, I performed gilding works.
I am accredited at the University of Tuscia for Ceramic Laboratories.
Major Projects
I participated in the creation of the silver decorations and final patina of the scale model of the Macchina di Santa Rosa, a UNESCO heritage symbol.
For the “G. Merlini” school in Viterbo, I created the bas-relief of Saint Maria De Mattia.
Art Therapy and Social Commitment
I am an Art Therapy instructor, collaborating with the Institute of Health, working with people with disabilities and mental health conditions.
This activity is mentioned in the book “From Clay to Creation” by Gabriella Trani.
My ongoing collaboration with Gabriella has trained and qualified me to support those who use ceramics as a form of social therapy.
Exhibitions and Recognition
I am considered one of the leading experts in ancient Italian ceramics, with participation in exhibitions such as:
- “Art”, Fortezza da Basso, Florence
- “MOA Casa” – Interior Design, Rome Fair
- Sectorial Trade, Utrecht
- Art Exhibition, Malta
- Rocca dei Papi, Montefiascone
- “Risorgimental Art in Italy”, Castel Sant’Angelo, Rome
I took part in the first editions of “San Pellegrino Cult” and “Music and Cinema in San Pellegrino”, with guest Ennio Morricone.
In Paris, I was invited to the Palais des Congrès and the Museum of Expression.
I participated in the Contemporary Ceramic Art Exhibition in Belgium in Luxembourg.
International Collaborations
I served as a consultant for the world congress “A Forest for Kyoto” in Japan: one of the works is the hand of U.S. President Barack Obama, later exhibited at the Museum of Peace in San Francisco.
My work has been featured on Sky Arte, National Geographic, and other international broadcasters.
The American painter Paul White (author of album covers for Genesis) created his first ceramic work in my studio.
Research on Historical Techniques
In my workshop, I reproduced the ancient “Zaffera” ceramic technique in cobalt blue (14th–15th century).
I have received multiple awards, and several pieces are exhibited in international museums.
Tarot and New Research Paths
My most recent body of work, exhibited at the Duomo Museum of Viterbo, focuses on the Tarot, which according to some sources arrived in Italy precisely in Viterbo.
This project is a work in progress, and I am currently studying ancient Chinese tarot cards.
Artistic Paths
In 2019, I opened my exclusive studio Percorsi Artistici di Cinzia Chiulli, located in the medieval district of San Pellegrino in Viterbo.
From here, I continue to create, experiment, and develop new artistic paths.
