This is my first May Day, in more than twenty years, that I am spending at home for the “Workers’ Holiday”. My artistic work normally has me working more when everyone else is celebrating, so for me May Day has always been, for many reasons, a special day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was precisely a May Day many years ago that marked the beginning of my career as an artist, and this happened during an event where the streets and alleys of Viterbo’s medieval village became a colourful path also made of scents and sounds. An explosion of nature amid the village’s architecture. I’m talking about “San Pellegrino in Fiore”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So today, absorbed by the beauty of the photos from one of the many editions of San Pellegrino in Fiore by Mr Ezio Cardinali, my dog draws my attention, playing with little flowers that have sprung up spontaneously on my garden wall. An unexpected emotion, seeing these simple flowers with which, as a young girl, I would normally play “he loves me, he loves me not”, counting the petals. This first San Pellegrino in Fiore and May Day celebration spent at home give me the chance to thank Mr E. Cardinali, who loves our Viterbo so much that, through his eyes, he manages to convey this love and the great beauty of a city that, whether dressed up for the festival, covered in colours and flowers, or in the essential grey of an everyday outfit, always appears proud, elegant, seductive, attractive and welcoming – if possible, soon even more so than ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We have travelled this “bridge”, even while still shut inside our homes, through his images and his gaze, which managed to make us appreciate even more what lies outside and is waiting for us. I hope to go back to work soon, and I wish the same for everyone. It’s hard not to fall into rhetoric, but I hope that next May Day many of us will be able to give this day real meaning.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
