The Asl di Viterbo, through its company Diabetes Centre and Prevention Department, in collaboration with the Agd Viterbo and Noidiabete associations, has organised four events dedicated to health, culture and respect for the environment.
Walking Friends is the name of the initiative which, through four prevention routes and walks against non-communicable chronic diseases, aims to encourage physical exercise through walking.
The first event on the calendar is Sunday 26 September with “Viterbo Reveals Its Arcana”: a route within the city walls with a visit to the Ceramics Museum. Departure at 9.30am from Colle del Duomo. On Sunday 3 October, departing at 9am from the Cittadella della Salute, it’s the turn of “Walking the Cimini Hills, Nature and Health”: an evocative walk through the network of trails, discovering the magnificent beech forest that covers Monte Cimino. For the third meeting, Sunday 10 October, we move to Vejano with the day “Walking with Diabetes”, an event sponsored by the local Pro Loco. Departure at 9am from the Cittadella della Salute in Viterbo. The last scheduled event, Sunday 17 October, at 9am, with “Along the Medieval Walls”: a 45-minute walk discovering the most distinctive places in the city of Viterbo. Participants will be accompanied by a fit-walking instructor, a tour guide, a doctor, a dietitian and a representative of the Association of Young Diabetics of the Province of Viterbo.
“The initiative – explains the director of the company Diabetes Centre, Claudio Grande – is in line with the goals of the Asl di Viterbo’s company Prevention Plan and is aimed at people with diabetes, but above all at people at risk of developing this disease due to factors such as being overweight, an unhealthy diet, and a lack of physical activity. Thanks to the organisational support of voluntary associations for people with diabetes, we decided to encourage movement through meetings and walks within our province’s historical, architectural and natural heritage, because the word prevention can, quite naturally, also become synonymous with cultural enrichment, the sharing of personal experiences, getting to know the environment around us, outdoor living and socialising”.
