Forme e Colori nella Terra di Tuscia, the artistic craftsmanship exhibition-competition curated by CNA Artistico e Tradizionale of Viterbo and Civitavecchia, finally returns in person, after two years in which the pandemic forced it to “move” online.
This is the 15th edition, opening on Friday 29 April at midday, and remaining open until Sunday 15 May, in Viterbo, in the spaces of the Valle Faul cultural centre.
Cinzia Chiulli Percorsi Artistici is present – outside the competition as President of CNA Artistico e Tradizionale – exhibiting the work I GO, I TURN, “TORNIO“.
A prestigious venue, made available once again by the Fondazione Carivit, whose collaboration, together with that of the Lazio Region, the Rieti-Viterbo Chamber of Commerce and Unioncamere Lazio, made the organisation of the event possible, under the patronage of the Municipality and the Province of Viterbo.
There is always anticipation for Forme e Colori, because it is something of a barometer for trends in artistic and traditional crafts sectors: artisans exhibit mostly unpublished works (a requirement for those entering the competition), or works that in any case express the research and experimentation carried out in the workshops.
“Over fifteen years, we have constantly sought to expand the event and improve it in terms of quality, convinced that craftsmanship deserves to be valued: it is a great heritage for our country,” says Luigia Melaragni, secretary of CNA Viterbo and Civitavecchia. “The 2022 edition is further proof of how precious the energy and know-how of artisans are, all the more so in this time of great discontinuity.”
Over the past two years, craftsmanship has faced enormous difficulties, “but the restrictions,” as Cinzia Chiulli, territorial president of CNA Artistico e Tradizionale, observes, “did not halt creative thought”. And the event “tells the story of artisans’ working life, giving solemnity to a slow, ancient and skilled gesture, which becomes important, indispensable, as it is inseparably linked ‘with both hands’ to our very lives”.
Forme e Colori, then, as a privileged meeting point among the artisans themselves, who here have the chance to compare notes, and between artisans and the public. But it is also a showcase for students from art schools, who present the works made in their school workshops.
This relationship with young people is one that CNA aims to strengthen, “because,” Melaragni stresses, “today more than ever there is a pressing need to ensure the intergenerational transmission of artisan know-how, and every effort must therefore be made to help new generations learn about the finest Italian arts.”
This year, as promised, the Faber Experience calendar is packed with more events: starting Wednesday 4 May, ten hands-on workshop experiences will be held, during which the public will not only listen to the artisans’ stories, but will also be guided by them in creating small handmade items to take home. Participation, like entry to the exhibition, will be free; booking is only required on the event’s website (www.mostraformeecolori.it).
Forme e Colori will be open every day, until Sunday 15 May 2022, from 10am to 1pm and from 3pm to 7pm.
